Chemainus stabbing victim identified; man faces murder charge

Derek Descouteau, 20, has been identified as the man killed Friday in a stabbing in Chemainus. Descouteau died on the way to hospital. A 16-year-old girl also suffered serious injuries in the incident. She remains in hospital.

North Cowichan/Duncan RCMP said 25-year-old Chemainus resident Colin John has been charged with second-degree murder and attempted murder.

A 16-year-old girl also suffered serious injuries in the incident. She remains in hospital.

North Cowichan/Duncan RCMP said 25-year-old Chemainus resident Colin John has been charged with second-degree murder and attempted murder.

John suffered minor injuries, police said.

He was treated in hospital and is in police custody.

“The North Cowichan/ Duncan RCMP are continuing with their investigation into this tragic incident and extend their condolences to the families of the victims,” Cpl. Krista Hobday said.
