Cedar woman, 62, hit by garbage truck dies

A 62-year-old pedestrian died Wednesday morning after she was hit by a garbage truck in Cedar, south of Nanaimo.

The accident happened about 10 a.m. when a 38-year-old male driver for BFI Canada, contracted by the Regional District of Nanaimo, was picking up garbage and recycling bins.

The woman was declared dead at the scene.

Nanaimo RCMP and an RCMP traffic reconstruction specialist are investigating. Nanaimo RCMP Const. Gary O’Brien said charges have not been discussed.
