A man in a wheelchair suffered a broken arm Wednesday when he was struck in a downtown Victoria crosswalk by a car that then sped away.
Victoria police will be canvassing downtown businesses today looking for the driver of a blue car that hit the quadriplegic man. The victim was in a motorized wheelchair when he was hit at the busy intersection of Douglas and Fort streets at about 2 p.m.
According to Victoria police, the victim was crossing in the crosswalk with the light when a blue car hit him as it turned left. The car then backed up and drove around the victim, police said.
Multiple witnesses responded to the injured man but were unable to report the licence plate of the car.
Victoria police say they will canvas the neighbourhood today for surveillance video. Witnesses to the crash are asked to call Victoria police on their non-emergency line of 250-995-7654 or anonymously contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
