An injured crew member from the U.S. Coast Guard cutter Healy was treated and released from hospital in Comox after being rescued by a Royal Canadian Air Force helicopter on Thursday.

Sherrie McIntosh, 55, an auxiliary coast guard member working as a chef, was hoisted from the ship about 100 nautical miles west of Cape Scott off northern Vancouver Island.

“She suffered an apparent head injury,” said U.S. Coast Guard Lt. Donnie Brzuska. “[She] is an important member of our crew and we’re pleased she’s in good condition and recovering.”

The Joint Rescue Co-ordination Centre in Victoria was called about 9:15 p.m. Thursday and responded by sending both a Buffalo aircraft and Cormorant helicopter from 19 Wing Comox to the scene.

“We’re grateful for the support of our partners from the Royal Canadian Air Force,” Brzuska said.
