When a report came in early Sunday that a carbon dioxide container had exploded at the Oak Bay Beach Hotel, police feared the worst: that it involved a large canister of compressed gas under high pressure that could do a lot of damage.
But it turned out that a container about the size of a can of whipped cream had exploded about 8 a.m., causing a minor injury to one staff member, said Const. Chris Goudie.
Other than the injured staffer, "it's a non-issue," he said.
