Bomb squad says package found near CFB Esquimalt not a threat

Admirals Road was closed Saturday between Lockely and Waywood roads as Victoria police and the military investigated a suspicious package left near Canadian Forces Base Esquimalt.

[UPDATE] Const. Matt Rutherford, spokesman for Victoria police, said explosive experts from CFB Esquimalt found a package left on Admirals Road to be non-threatening.

Admirals Road reopened just after 4 p.m.

Victoria police said the investigation is continuing. No further details have been released.

Victoria police and the Royal Canadian Navy’s Bomb Disposal Team are investigating a suspicious package near Canadian Forces Base Esquimalt.

Police say they arrived at the 700 block of Admirals Road about 1:15 p.m.

Admirals is closed between Lockely and Woodway roads

"Out of an abundance of caution, we closed the road," VicPD said via Twitter.

The public is being asked to avoid the area.
