Bogus tax collectors target Parksville, Qualicum residents

Residents in the Parksville and Qualicum areas have received threatening phone calls from fraudsters acting as representatives from the Canada Revenue Agency, Oceanside RCMP say.

Residents in the Parksville and Qualicum areas have received threatening phone calls from fraudsters acting as representatives from the Canada Revenue Agency, Oceanside RCMP say.

Several people were called and told they owed back taxes as the result of an audit. A voicemail from someone who claimed to work for the Canada Revenue Agency was also received.

Residents were told that immediate payment was required or the RCMP would be called. In some cases, they were told to wire money to avoid arrest.

Anyone who receives similar calls is asked to immediately hang up and contact Oceanside RCMP at 250-248-6111.
