Body recovered in Oak Bay, foul play not suspected

Oak Bay police have confirmed that the body of a man recovered from McNeill Bay on Sunday evening is that of an Oak Bay resident reported missing on April 21.

Oak Bay police have confirmed that the body of a man recovered from McNeill Bay on Sunday evening is that of an Oak Bay resident reported missing on April 21.

The identification was made with the assistance of the family of Ronald Merner, age 56, Oak Bay Chief Andy Brinton said late Monday afternoon. Foul play is not suspected at this point, he added. The B.C. Coroners Service has taken over the file in the determination of the cause of death.

Police received a call at 5:45 p.m. Sunday from a citizen who spotted the body.
