Body of missing Port Alberni man found; RCMP investigate targeted killing

Police believe a Port Alberni man reported missing in January was the victim of a targeted killing.

The body of Trevor Ryan Oakley was found Sunday near Sarita Bay, about 70 kilometres south of Port Alberni.

His death is suspected to be a homicide and the Vancouver Island Integrated Major Crime Unit is investigating, said Port Alberni RCMP spokeswoman Cpl. K. Amelia Hayden.

Investigators do not believe the public is at risk.

An autopsy was scheduled for Friday.

The 34-year-old last spoke with his mother, Karen Bosch, on Jan. 3, when he was staying at the Port Alberni shelter. She reported him missing on Jan. 17.

Oakley’s vehicle, a grey Dodge Neon, was found three days later on Fourth Avenue in Port Alberni.

Police ask anyone with information on Oakley’s death to contact the Vancouver Island Integrated Major Crime Unit at 250-380-6211.
