Three men went missing when their boat capsized near Tofino’s Duffin Cove on June 15.

The boat that capsized off Tofino Friday with five men on board has been located, but three missing men have not yet been found, the RCMP said Tuesday.

RCMP West Coast Marine and RCMP Underwater Recovery Team found the boat underwater near Duffin Passage, said RCMP spokeswoman Cpl. Tammy Douglas.

“The boat has now been surfaced and will be held for investigation,” Douglas said.

Five people were in the boat when it capsized near Duffin Cove about 2:30 a.m. Friday.

One man was able to swim to shore and another was rescued by a Canadian Coast Guard vessel.

Tofino Mayor Josie Osborne said the boat was found in the area where the two men were rescued, near Duffin Cove.

“Locating the vessel is a good thing in that it provides a little bit more information, and we all hope it can provide some answers for the family,” she said.

Osborne added that the community continues to rally round the families of the missing men by donating clothes, food and providing financial and emotional support.

The missing men have been identified by friends and family as Marcel Martin, Carl Martin Jr. and Terrance Brown Jr., all members of the Tla-o-qui-aht First Nation.
