Barge refloated after running aground near Campbell River

A U.S. barge that ran aground near Campbell River early Tuesday morning has been refloated, officials say. The Canadian Coast Guard responded after the Ocean Eagle and the tug that was towing it touched bottom at about 2 a.m.

A U.S. barge that ran aground near Campbell River early Tuesday morning has been refloated, officials say.

The Canadian Coast Guard responded after the Ocean Eagle and the tug that was towing it touched bottom at about 2 a.m. No one was injured in the incident and the vessel is now headed to Menzies Bay to be examined for damage.

There are no reports of any fuel spill as a result of the grounding. The barge had been carrying general cargo and was en route to Alaska.
