It’s a rough day for B.C. Ferries on Vancouver Island seas. After a mechanical issue on the Queen of Cowichan forced the cancellation of all afternoon and evening sailings between Nanaimo and West Vancouver, another route is facing major delays.

The Coastal Celebration had to return to Swartz Bay because of a medical emergency on the 3 p.m. sailing to Tsawwassen. This will delay further sailings on the route, but it’s not yet clear to what extent.

Earlier in the day, B.C. Ferries cancelled sailings between Departure Bay in Nanaimo and Horseshoe Bay in West Vancouver due to and electrical problem on the Queen of Cowichan.

To help ease traffic woes, the corporation added two sailings on the route between Duke Point in Nanaimo and Tsawwassen.

Ferries spokesperson Deborah Marshall said the Queen of Cowichan should be operating as schedule Sunday.

Cancelled sailings between Departure Bay and Horseshoe Bay:

• From Departure Bay — 3 and 7 p.m. sailings

• From Horseshoe Bay — 5, 7 and 9 p.m. sailings

Added sailings between Duke Point and Tsawwassen:

• From Duke Point — 5:45 p.m.

• From Tsawwassen — 8:15 p.m.
