Transportation Minister Todd Stone has given the board of B.C. Ferries more time to fix its unpopular executive bonus program.
Stone said he spoke to board chairman Donald Hayes this week — at the end of a 30-day deadline — to get an update.
“They asked for a little bit more time to finalize those changes, which I thought was entirely reasonable, and I understand that they’ll have more to report to me and to British Columbians in the very near future,” Stone told reporters.
The Ferries board has been under fire for granting hefty bonuses to senior executives during a year in which increased taxpayer subsidies helped stem financial losses and give the appearance of profitability.
