DeerSafe Victoria, which strongly opposed Oak Bay’s recent deer cull, is organizing a rally Saturday at Centennial Square to protest further culls.
The organization hopes the event will send a message to Victoria council and the Capital Regional District, said DeerSafe founder Kelly Carson.
“It’s not our intention to attract tourist attention — the Oak Bay cull gave that city enough negative publicity on its own,” Carson said.
Eleven deer were killed in February during the cull, part of the CRD deer-management pilot project.
Carson is concerned Victoria and other municipalities will consider following Oak Bay.
“Our wildlife belong to us all. By using our tax dollars to implement a killing program, the municipalities will make us all complicit in something that we are vehemently against.”
The rally is scheduled for 2 to 4 p.m.
