2.8-magnitude earthquake shakes Gulf Islands

A 2.8-magnitude earthquake hit the Gulf Islands area about 10:10 a.m. Friday. The quake was centred 34 kilometres east of Duncan and about 59 kilometres below the surface.

A 2.8-magnitude earthquake hit the Gulf Islands area about 10:10 a.m. Friday.

The quake was centred 34 kilometres east of Duncan and about 59 kilometres below the surface. It was lightly felt in the Gulf Islands, on parts of southern Vancouver Island and in North Vancouver, according to Earthquakes Canada and the U.S. Geological Survey.

No damage was reported and none would be expected for an earthquake of that strength.
