Two men have been sentenced to 41/2 years for a home invasion, assault and extortion on Christmas Day of 2008. The victim was visiting a home in the 700-block of Princess Street when Steven Lee Maxwell and Christopher McGibbon arrived and held him against his will. As they beat the 21-year-old man, they phoned his mother and demanded money to settle a small drug debt, said the victim's mom, Sandi Hoekstra. They beat him with a baseball bat, breaking his leg, arm and nose and delivering head injuries, said Victoria police spokesman Sgt. Grant Hamilton. Hoekstra says her son lost his vision, and lives with constant physical pain and psychological trauma as a result of the assault.
