Rescuers found two hikers on a walking trail north of Thetis Lake late Saturday afternoon after one of the women fell, broke her wrist and wound up briefly unconscious.
View Royal volunteer firefighters brought out two pickup trucks and two all-terrain vehicles for a two-hour search that started about 3 p.m.
The search was fairly easy, using loudspeakers and one hikers cellphone as a tracking system, rescuers reported. But View Royal Lt. Rob Marshall said the call was complicated by the lack of daylight this time of year.
Two B.C. Ambulance paramedics treated the injured hiker and took her to Victoria General Hospital.
One woman had fallen on the rocks and broke her wrist, Marshall said. She must have passed out from the pain, so her friend decided to call for help.
