Firearms, drugs, a sheriff's uniform shirt and a B.C. Corrections jacket were among items recovered by the Regional Crime Unit last week in two separate investigations that spanned the capital region.
On Nov. 18, Victoria police executed a search warrant at a rented storage locker where they recovered the clothing, along with three firearms.
The sheriff shirt had been stolen on March 7 from a vehicle in Colwood, and the B.C. Corrections jacket was stolen on June 27 from a vehicle in Saanich. Two of the firearms were stolen during a break-and-enter in Langford on June 7.
On Nov. 19, Victoria police obtained a search warrant for the residence of the man who rented the storage locker. During that search, they recovered a handgun and a large quantity of suspected stolen property, including cameras, jewelry, power tools, credit cards and electronics.
Police said some of those items were traced to 12 recent break-and-enters of homes, and to thefts from vehicles in Colwood, Sidney, Central Saanich and Saanich.
Ryan Andrew Fletcher, 22, of Colwood was arrested and charged with 15 counts of possession of stolen property under $5,000, breach of release conditions and four offences related to unlawful possession of firearms.
In a separate investigation, also on Nov. 19, unit officers observed a man driving a stolen Acura MDX, which had been taken from a Highlands residence two days earlier.
Police waited until the 23-year-old driver parked the vehicle on the 300-block of Wale Road in Colwood, and then apprehended him.
The driver was found to be in possession of property stolen during overnight thefts from vehicles in Saanich on Oct. 31 and in Colwood on Nov. 18, police said. He was also found to have a substance suspected to be crystal meth.
Matthew Craig Mc-Tavish, 23, faces many charges, including one count of stolen property under $5,000 and possession of a substance for the purpose of trafficking.
