Victoria police say a 38-year-old man is lucky to be alive after a pickup truck jumped onto the sidewalk where he was walking.
Just before midnight Friday, the man was walking on Esquimalt Road near Sitkum Road when he heard an engine revving and turned around to see a black pickup heading toward him. The man ran, but the vehicle struck his wrist as it passed him, knocking his watch off and fracturing his hand. The vehicle slammed into a rock face and flipped over him, then crashed onto its roof.
The 30-year-old woman driving the truck, and her passengers, a man and a woman, escaped serious injury. Victoria police, said speed and the driver's inexperience with the vehicle may have been contributing factors.
