Parents of students attending Belmont Secondary School in Langford have been warned that a student has been diagnosed with hand, foot and mouth disease, a virus thats not serious but is uncomfortable and contagious.
Those afflicted may suffer from a fever, runny nose or sore throat as well as blisters inside the mouth or on the tongue or gums.
Red spots may appear on the hands and feet. The spots can turn into blisters.
The virus is spread by coughing or direct contact with airborne droplets.
Students are urged to wash hands frequently and throw used tissues in the garbage.
