Campbell River woman has died after Saturday crash on Highway 19A

Campbell River Courier-Islander
December 27, 2012

A 35-year-old Campbell River woman died Monday after a car accident Saturday on Highway 19A near the Big Rock Motel.

RCMP say a southbound vehicle lost control, crossed the centre line and struck a northbound vehicle. The southbound vehicle went onto the southbound shoulder, hit a power pole, became airborne and flipped several times in the air.

RCMP say the 35-year-old Campbell River woman, who was in the southbound vehicle, was ejected from the car and badly hurt. She was taken to Campbell River Hospital, then airlifted to Vancouver where she died.

Police say the other person in the southbound vehicle survived because they were wearing a seatbelt. Police are still investigating and speed is considered to be a factor in the collision. Police are now assisting the B.C. Coroners Service with the investigation.

No names are being released until the family has been notified.
