A 28-year-old Saanich man was arrested last night after spitting on a police officer and instigating two drunken disturbances.
Police were called to a wedding reception at the Mary Winspear Centre in Sidney when a fight broke out around 1 a.m.
RCMP located the 28-year-old man, who they say was drunk and the instigator of the fight, when the mans 53-year-old mother picked him up by car and quickly drove away.
The police had seized his photo identification and phone before he fled, as they had started to interrogate him before the mother assisted in the getaway.
Police learned he has an active bail condition stating that he is not allowed to consume alcohol.
At 2 a.m., the mans 58-year-old father called Saanich Police saying the man was drunk and out of control.
Police went to the familys home in the High Quadra neighbourhood on Jagdeep Place where the man was found highly agitated and resisted being arrested.
The man tried to bite an officer twice and spat into the face and eyes of another officer. Police officers were not injured.
Police are proposing charging the man with assaulting a police officer and breaching his previous bail conditions.
