Premier Gordon Campbell has unveiled a series of flattering new posters of himself, featuring photos taken by B.C. rocker Bryan Adams.
The Liberal leader unveiled one large portrait photograph and three posters, done in a retro style and created by Adams during a recent visit to Vancouver.
“I agreed I would like him to take some pictures, and he said, ‘Yeah, that would be great,'” Campbell told reporters on the campaign bus Thursday afternon.
The Liberal campaign had earlier approached Adams to photograph Campbell. And when Adams flew into Vancouver for the Juno Awards in late March, he duly obliged. Adams took Campbell to his Gastown studio and spent an afternoon shooting off frames of the premier.
“He agreed we could use them for some posters,” said Campbell Thursday. “I think it’s great that we’re able to use them for the campaign."
“I really enjoyed my afternoon with him,” said Campbell, who called him a "superb" photgrapher.
Adams has his name on the posters, and a contribution was made to a charity on his behalf.
But Campbell didn’t consider Adams a loyal B.C. Liberal. He had only briefly met Adams once before.
“I don’t think Bryan Adams even votes in Canada,” he said.
Campbell and the Liberals also use a Bryan Adams song, "Can’t Stop This Thing We’ve Started" to pump up the crowds before his appearances.
“I appreciate the fact that they approved that we could use that,” he said.
