Vancouver police issued a public warning Monday after two people died from an overdose of what is believed to be bad heroin.

Sgt. Randy Fincham said an adult man died Saturday night, and a 15-year-old girl was found dead Monday morning in a West End apartment.

Police have not identified either of the deceased, but tributes and messages have poured in on social media to remember a 15-year-old teen named Adriana Falcon, who friends say died Monday from a drug overdose.

“I still can’t grasp the fact that you’re gone,” said friend Catalina Joseph, who had only known Falcon for a month but described the two of them as inseparable in recent weeks. “I wish we would have had a better way to say goodbye.”

In both deaths Fincham said they’re awaiting a coroner’s report to help determine what was in the heroin.

Police urged drug users to be cautious and utilize INSITE, the supervised injection site, where they can be monitored by medical staff if there’s an overdose.

The Vancouver police have advised a number of local agencies, including INSITE, Vancouver Coastal Health, other police forces, the B.C. Ambulance Service and other community partners about the bad dope on Vancouver streets.

Any drug users who are feeling ill are being told to seek medical attention.

The warning follows another alert by the PHS Community Services Society. PHS co-manages INSITE along with Vancouver Coastal Health.

PHS executive director Mark Townsend said they had three overdoses at INSITE last week, which prompted them to issue a warning about the suspect heroin.

“We had three overdoses in a row, which is unusual,” he said.

No one died at the facility.
