Vancouver Canucks sign veteran defenceman Jim Vandermeer

VANCOUVER - The Vancouver Canucks have signed veteran defenceman Jim Vandermeer.

The 32-year-old native of Caroline, Alta., has played in 461 NHL games, recording 105 points (25 goals, 80 assists) and 664 penalty minutes.

The six-foot-one, 208-pound. defenceman had one goal and three assists in 25 games with San Jose last season.

Prior to entering the NHL, Vandermeer captained the Western Hockey League's Red Deer Rebels to a Memorial Cup championship in the 2000-01 season.
