Teen charged with attempted murder, assault at UBC dorm

RICHMOND — A teenager has been charged after a serious assault inside a University of B.C. dorm. Thamer Almestadi, 18, is charged with attempted murder, aggravated assault and assault with a weapon, university RCMP said Wednesday.

Thamer Almestadi, 18, is charged with attempted murder, aggravated assault and assault with a weapon, university RCMP said Wednesday.

Almestadi appeared in Richmond provincial court Wednesday and remains in custody.

On Tuesday about 11:30 a.m., police were called to a Totem Park dorm in the 2500 block of West Mall after receiving reports that a suspect was being held by another man. The suspect had allegedly assaulted a woman inside the student residence.

The woman was taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries, while police secured the scene and the suspect was arrested.

No further information has been released about the relationship between suspect and victim, if there was any.
