Pedestrian killed by freight train in Kamloops, B.C.

KAMLOOPS, B.C. - Members of a CP Rail train crew are being offered counselling after a tragic early morning accident on the CP main line through a Kamloops, B.C., suburb.

CP Rail spokesman Kevin Hersak says a westbound freight train was travelling through the Dallas area of Kamloops, about 350 kilometres northeast of Vancouver.

He says the crew saw what appeared to be a person lying on the tracks.

The victim could not be roused and there was no way to stop the train in time.

The collision occurred just after 4:30 a.m., on Thursday.

Officials are now trying to identify the victim and determine why that person was on the tracks. (CHNL)
