MLA who chaired committee that dumped auditor unaware of probe into his spending

VERNON, B.C. - A B.C. Liberal MLA who chaired a committee that decided against re-appointing Auditor General John Doyle says he wasn't aware Doyle was investigating him.

Eric Foster was cited in a confidential letter from the AG's office last year over inadequate documentation for a $67,000 renovation of his constituency office in Vernon.

Foster says he wasn't aware of the letter until it was leaked to a Victoria reporter, who told him about it Tuesday.

But he says whoever leaked the letter didn't provide the response, which Foster says addressed the concerns the auditor raised.

Citing committee confidentiality, the Liberals have refused to say why they blocked the reappointment of Doyle, who's been a sharp critic of the government.

The NDP has blasted the government for refusing to retain Doyle. (CKIZ)
