Medical pot grower has excess crop pruned by cops; had 295 plants instead of 35

ABBOTSFORD, B.C. - An enthusiastic medical marijuana grower has had his surplus crop pruned by police.

Abbotsford, B.C., police used a warrant to search a home Tuesday night and found almost 300 marijuana plants.

They later discovered a man at the home had a license from Health Canada to grow medical marijuana, but the permit was for just 35 plants and his crop was 10 times that.

The extra 260 plants were seized.

Abbotsford police were also called out Tuesday to help during a dangerous fire connected to a separate Health Canada sanctioned grow operation.

Const. Ian MacDonald says the city's emergency services were deployed twice in one day to deal with issues that appear to fall under the broader responsibility of Health Canada and its licensed grow operations.
