A 19-year-old has been arrested and is in custody after double homicide discovered Saturday morning near Powell River.

Powell River RCMP said they were called about 5:15 a.m. to a home in the 1500 block of Scotch Place in Lund, a village 22 km north of Powell River, where they were told someone had been shot.

“Police located two individuals who were deceased, and a male suffering from non-life-threatening injuries,” said Cpl. Janelle Shoihet. “The injured male was transported to local area hospital, was treated and has since been released.”

Shoihet said in a statement that a 19-year-old man had been arrested and remained in custody as of Saturday afternoon.

Investigators with the Vancouver Island Integrated Major Crime Unit have been tapped to investigate the double homicide.

Early indications are that it was not a random event and that there is no threat to the public, police said.

No other details were released.
