Lost, injured skiers rescued from B.C. mountains

VANCOUVER - Several lost and injured skiers in British Columbia are now safe thanks to the efforts of search-and-rescue officials.

Mounties in Revelstoke say two tourists from Europe called for help Friday evening after becoming lost while skiing out of the controlled boundaries of a local ski resort, located about 630 kilometres east of Vancouver.

They say the 29- and 30-year-old men were rescued early Saturday morning.

Meantime, Doug Pope of North Shore Search and Rescue said members rescued a 51-year-old man who injured his knee while backcountry skiing in West Vancouver.

Pope said the man's friends called 911 to say they needed help on Saturday, and about four hours later the injured skier was rescued from the east face of Hollyburn Mountain.

Members used snowmobiles and hiked into the area to rescue the man but would have used a helicopter if the weather had been better.
