RICHMOND, B.C. - The RCMP confirm four people are in hospital after being shot in Richmond, B.C. Wednesday night.

It happened at about 9 p.m. during a longshoreman’s union gathering at the Riverside Banquet Hall (on River Road near Number Six Road).

RCMP Insp. Brian Massie says it appears to have been a "targeted situation" and described the injuries as ranging from "critical and life-threatening to not so critical."

Massie also told radio station CKNW that a single shooter was involved, but did not indicate if anyone has been arrested.

One unidentified eyewitness told radio station News1130 that one person was shot in the neck during an argument and three people who tried to intervene were also shot.

Another witness said he heard around eight shots being fired. Police used a transit bus to take witnesses from the banquet hall to the detachment for further questioning. (CKNW,News1130)
