A Delta police officer has been charged with second-degree murder after B.C.'s Independent Investigations Office looked into a 2012 police shooting that ended a five-hour armed standoff outside a casino in New Westminster.

Constable Jordan MacWilliams has been charged in the death of Mehrdad Bayrami, B.C.’s Criminal Justice Branch announced today in a news release.

The release said that MacWilliams has been released on bail with terms and conditions, and is next scheduled to appear in court in New Westminster on Dec. 18.

The November 2012 incident began around 6 a.m. outside the Starlight Casino after reports of shots being fired. The 24-hour casino was locked down as a safety precaution.

Police said no hostages were taken in the incident.
