VERNON - Any decision on the future of B.C.'s auditor general has been delayed by an all-party legislative committee until at least next week.

The committee met briefly Friday and its chair, Vernon Liberal MLA Eric Foster, says the issue was put off until Tuesday when the committee meets again.

The committee announced earlier this month that Doyle, who has condemned past spending habits of the B.C. Liberal government, would not be reappointed to a second six year term.

In the face of Opposition criticism, Premier Christy Clark announced proposed legislation to limit the auditor general's position to a single term, but increase the length of the appointment to eight years.

Clark has said she hopes B.C.'s current financial watchdog would remain on the job for the final 24 months of the revised term.

Foster said before Friday's meeting that he likes the concept of a single, longer appointment, noting the current system is flawed and creates many problems. (CKIZ)
