VICTORIA - The B.C. government says it's going to move the main liquor distribution warehouse in Vancouver to a new location and sell the land the building now occupies.
Rich Coleman, the minister in charge of the liquor branch, says studies will be done to determine the best location for a more modern distribution centre that will include better loading docks and higher ceilings.
He says there will be no staff cuts and the new centre should be in operation by 2015.
Union leaders suspect the move is aimed at selling some prime real estate in Vancouver to help reduce B.C.'s debt.
The decision to move to warehouse comes a few months after the government abandoned a controversial plan to privatize the liquor distribution system. (The Canadian Press,CKNW)
