Victoria police blocked off a section of Bastion Square behind the Maritime museum after a young woman's body was discovered around 3:40 p.m. Tuesday afternoon.

The area directly below the back part of the Yates Street parkade was blocked off and police covered the body with a white sheet.

Police say the woman committed suicide but would not say if she jumped from the parkade.

Young people in their 20s milled close to police tape, fearing the woman was a friend, but police would not confirm the identity.
