Crash snarls traffic on Pat Bay Highway

A single-vehicle accident played havoc Monday afternoon with northbound traffic on the Pat Bay Highway.

One northbound lane was shut down shortly after 1 p.m. after a car slammed into a light standard at Martindale Road. The driver, a woman, was taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Highway 17 northbound was reduced to one lane during the afternoon while police waited for a crane to secure the light standard before removing the vehicle.

By 5:30 p.m., that operation was complete and both lanes were open.

The cause of the crash is still under investigation, but it appears heavy rainfall may have been a factor, police said.
