Nanaimo firefighters rescue boy who fell into river

Nanaimo firefighters rescued a six-year-old boy from the Millstone River in Bowen Park on Saturday. Firefighters and B.C. Ambulance attendants responded to the report received at 5 p.m.

Firefighters and B.C. Ambulance attendants responded to the report received at 5 p.m.

The child slipped and fell into the river, but was able to pull himself onto a rock, according to Nanaimo Fire Rescue. Firefighters assembled a technical-rope-rescue team and retrieved the boy, who was taken to Nanaimo Regional General Hospital.

The Millstone is a 14-kilometre river that runs from Brannen Lake into Nanaimo’s 36-hectare Bowen Park.
