An attack of coughing might be to blame for a driver crashing into a building in Saanich’s Uptown shopping mall early this morning, according to Saanich police.

No one was injured in the single-vehicle crash that occurred at about 6:30 a.m. on the Douglas Street side of the shopping complex, police said.

“It seemed he had a coughing fit and into the building he went,” said Saanich Staff Sgt. Todd Bryant.

A pick-up truck hit a wall of the Future Shop building, according to Uptown administration, damaging some landscaping on the way.

Police cleared the scene just after 8 a.m.
