Police are trying to locate one of the victims in a pair of assaults in downtown Victoria this past weekend.

Members of the department’s Late Night Task Force responded to a report of an assault near the intersection of Yates and Government streets about 11:15 p.m. Friday.

On the way, one of the officers was flagged down by someone with visible injuries who turned out to be a victim of one of the attacks.

The person directed the officer to the assailant, then left the area without giving their name to police.

Police located and arrested a suspect.

They were then approached by the person who had initially reported the assault. That victim said the suspect had struck them in the face.

Police said the two victims do not know each other or the suspect and both assaults are believed to have been random.

The suspect has since been released with a court date.

Police are asking the unidentified victim and anyone else with information on what happened to call the report desk at 250-995-7654, extension 1, and reference file No. 24-10011.
