Body discovered in ocean at Esquimalt Lagoon, foul play not suspected

Person has not been identified, police said

A body was found in the ocean at Esquimalt Lagoon Thursday afternoon.

Police cordoned off a section of the busy beach while RCMP and the B.C. ­Coroners Service responded. A section of Ocean ­Boulevard was closed from roughly noon to 2:30 p.m. while police investigated.

RCMP said foul play was not suspected and there was no known risk to the public.

Navy public affairs said a report of a person in the water came in at midday.

A spokesperson said a ­Canadian Coast Guard lifeboat had been sent to the area but police had already retrieved the person.

Police said the victim has not been identified. They said no information on the age or gender of the individual is being released.
