Nanaimo RCMP said a body was recovered from Long Lake Thursday morning.

The body was reported by a walker at the south end of the lake at 10:30 a.m., about 40 metres from the swimming area, Const. Gary O’Brien said.

Police did not say if the body was a man or a woman.

O’Brien said later in a statement that the death is not considered suspicious at this time.

The body was brought to shore by police and fire responders using a rescue boat and the coroner was at the scene.

O’Brien said it’s too early to determine a cause of death.

The B.C. Coroners Service is leading the investigation as police continue work to identify the body and notify family members.
