Saskatoon hospital to remain closed to visitors on weekend due to virus

SASKATOON - St. Paul's Hospital in Saskatoon says it won't reopen its doors to visitors until it is sure an outbreak of a stomach virus has subsided.

The hospital is to remain closed to visitors this weekend due to the nasty bug that has made about three dozen people at the facility sick.

The hospital says there needs to be a 96-hour window from the last reported case of illness before visitors will be allowed.

No new cases have been reported since Thursday.

The emergency department is to remain open, but people are urged to use the ER only if truly necessary.

A hospital spokeswoman has said test results indicate the illness is not the Norwalk virus, although it shares many of the same symptoms, including diarrhea and nausea.
