Crab lice now an endangered species

Stephen Smysnuik / Times Colonist
January 14, 2013

Somebody better call PETA: crab lice are now an endangered species list.

Bloomberg reports that Brazilian bikini waxes have led to a drastic decline in pubic lice (better known as “crabs”). With over 80 per cent of U.S. college students removing all or some of their pubic hair, the lice have nowhere to exist.

In Australia, Sydney’s main sexual health clinic hasn’t seen a case of crabs since 2008, and male cases have fallen 80 per cent from a decade ago.

Consider this a better way of dealing with one of the world’s most contagious sexually transmitted infections, since crabs are typically treated with topical insecticide.

Maybe you should file this under your "best news of the week" report.
