PENTICTON — Penticton RCMP are searching for a stolen 2011 Chevrolet Corvette that was driven right through the window of a showroom late Thursday.

Just before 11:30 p.m., smashed glass was reported and a car spotted speeding away from the Okanagan city’s Huber GMC dealership.

Officers found the glass bay door of the showroom smashed wide open and an empty parking spot.

Dealership staff confirmed a silver 2011 Special Heritage Edition Grand Sport Corvette was missing.

As officers investigated the scene, the vehicle was spotted speeding past en route to Highway 97.

An officer in a marked police vehicle followed the car a short distance as it left Penticton and headed north.

Due to safety concerns, officers did not chase the car, but relayed details of its direction to Summerland RCMP.

The Corvette was spotted in the Trout Creek Summerland area, and clocked at 220 kilometres an hour.

West Kelowna Mounties were alerted and a roadblock set up near the connector. But the vehicle couldn’t be found and police believe it turned off the highway at some point.

Penticton RCMP continue to investigate.
