For the first time this year, Victoria residents have the choice of putting the leaves they rake up in a biodegradable bag or traditional loose piles for pickup. The standard acceptable biodegradable bags, which can be bought at hardware and grocery stores, hold 33 litres and are usually clear or light green.
Crews pick up leaves from November to early January. First in line this year is Fairfield, where pickup is set for Nov. 9. Residents can also drop off leaf and garden waste for free at the city works yard, 417 Garbally Rd., on Saturdays from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. A valid driver's licence is required to prove residency.
