Victoria welcomed a new radio station Tuesday as Jack FM flipped formats to become KiSS 103.1, a modern-hit music station.

The Fort Street station, owned by Rogers Media, broadcasts at 103.1 FM and will have a current-hits radio format. The first song played by the station, which flipped formats at 4 p.m. Tuesday, was Uptown Funk by Mark Ronson and Bruno Mars.

“We’re super-excited to be changing the land of radio in Victoria,” said Crash Davis, program director for the station. “This will be absolutely massive for the city. We’re really excited to bring KiSS to Victoria, which is in need of a serious fresh coat of paint.”

The format change is specific to the Victoria market, Davis said. Vancouver’s Jack FM will remain, as will other Rogers stations carrying the same format of hit songs from the late 1960s through the 2000s.

Jack FM went on air in Victoria on Jan. 29, 2004.
