Showing House Beautiful: Dreams were built of wood and stone
Sheri Fraser knew what appliances she wanted in her kitchen long before she and her husband ever started building their new Beach Drive home. She also had a pretty good idea of how her kitchen was going to look and function.

o A white island in the dressing room offers storage, while large windows add light and fresh air. "It was a toss up between an island or built-in bench," said designer Sandy Nygaard.

o The living room's soaring ceiling and barrel roof detail lets in lots of light. Floors are antiqued European walnut, oiled not varnished which makes them easy to repair if scratched.

o The prep area has a broad, deep sink and one dishwasher, while there is a smaller sink and half-size dishwasher in the island, for glasses and small meal cleanups.

Millwork is the feature of this house that first catches the visitors eye. Wood panelling, stairway banisters and imposing wooden columns dominate the entrance hall.

o The spacious powder room in encircled by wainscoting that ties in with cabinetry either side of the large sink. The mirror wall is aglow with white and black marble mosaics.

A small balcony stretches the length of the master bedroom. The ceiling is lit by a glowing amber fixture, which warms the soft grey linens.

o A black wall of built in shelves and cabinets camouflages a giant 80-inch television in the media room. This room and the library share a colour scheme and are sometimes used together as a large space for entertaining a crowd.
