Set a realistic goal: Whether it’s a number on the scale, a dress size or the completion of a marathon, setting a personal health goal will help keep you on track when the dieting road gets difficult.
Get moving!: Restrictive dieting alone can only do so much. Absolute health also comes from within. Engaging in a regular exercise regime is a surefire way to elevate your fitness level. (Remember to consult your physician and/or a fitness professional before making a dramatic health change to make sure it’s the right change for you.)
Write it down: Whether recording daily food intake, exercise minutes or meal plans, keeping track of your health achievements is a great way to reach your goals.
Buddy up: Engaging friends, family or co-workers in your dieting endeavors can significantly increase your success. Motivate one another with proper food choices, exercise regimes and day-to-day support. Remember, it’s not a competition, but a friendly journey to a better you!
Map it out: Developing weekly meal plans is fantastic for families and those who diet solo. A balanced meal plan can help with making enhanced nutrition choices, targeted grocery shopping trips and beating the I’ve-eaten-the-same-thing-for-the-past-30-days blahs.
Have fun: Sure, the decision to live a healthy lifestyle is going to require commitment, but that doesn’t mean it has to feel like a chore. Developing healthy hobbies, joining sports clubs, finding favourite classes at the gym, becoming an avid health food book/magazine reader and surrounding yourself with like-minded lifestyle individuals will greatly enhance your life, as well as your general dieting journey.
Be adventurous: Don’t fall into the ‘I’m not going to like that’ mentality. Just because you tried broccoli once when you were five and thought it tasted like dirty feet doesn’t mean you’re going to feel the same way now. Being open to eating new and different foods can open an almost-limitless array of food options.
Remember, the path to a healthy lifestyle may not be easy ... but it will be worth it in the end.
