As a child, Sarah Michelle Gellar appeared in magazines and commercials (including Burger King). One of her first roles was that of a teenage Jacqueline Bouvier in the TV movie, <i>A Woman Named Jackie</i> in 1991. The following year, Gellar starred as Sydney in the short-lived syndicated drama, <i>Swans Crossing</i>.
Sarah Michelle Gellar's first big break came in 1993 when she was cast as Erica Kane's (Susan Lucci) long-lost daughter, Kendall Hart, on <i>All My Children</i>. Gellar stayed on the soap until 1995, the same year she won a Daytime Emmy Award for Outstanding Younger Actress in a Drama Series. Gellar first met Michelle Trachtenberg (who played her sister on Buffy) while they were both AMC.
Alicia Minshew took over the role of Kendall in 2002, Gellar will play a patient of Eva LaRue's Dr. Maria Santos who insists she's Erica Kane's daughter! Although there were rumours of a feud between Susan Lucci and Gellar, Lucci recently told <i>TV Guide</i> that she would have enjoyed sharing a scene with both Gellar and Minshew one last time.
Sarah Michelle Gellar originally auditioned for the role of Cordelia for the TV series <i>Buffy the Vampire Slayer</i> but ended up getting the lead. The role of Cordelia ended up going to Charisma Carpenter.
The WB's <i>Buffy the Vampire Slayer</i> premiered on March 10, 1997 and made Sarah Michelle Gellar a household name.
In 1997, Sarah Michelle Gellar became a "Scream Queen" while appearing in both <i>I Know What You Did Last Summer</i> and <i>Scream 2</i>.

Sarah Michelle Gellar began dating Freddie Prinze, Jr. in 2000. The pair met during the filming of <i>I Know What You Did Last Summer</i> in 1997. The couple became engaged in April 2001 and were married in Mexico on September 1, 2002.
When Stone Temple Pilots frontman Scott Weiland was in jail for various drug charges, he became a fan of <i>Buffy</i> and requested that Sarah Michelle Gellar appear in the video for Sour Girl. The video was released in Spring 2000.

In 2001, The WB refused to pay Fox (who produced the series) more than $1.8 million per episode, so other networks began bidding on the hit series.
UPN offered to pay $2.35 million an episode and signed on for a two season, 44-episode deal. During The WB's finale, Buffy leaped to her death in order to save her sister (and the world). UPN took advantage of the show's storyline and promoted her resurrection. The WB and UPN would merge and form The CW in 2006.

Sarah Michelle Gellar returns to TV in <i>Ringer</i>, where she plays twins which premieres on Tuesday, September 13th on The CW and Friday, September 16th on Global. Gellar stars as twin sisters Bridget and Siobhan who find their lives are both unraveling at the same rate. Bridget, a recovering alcoholic is on the run from the mob after witnessing a murder. Bridget reunites with her sister, until Siobhan mysteriously disappears.
